"Delay is the [worst] form of denial.Cyril Northcote Parkinson

"I'm lucky that my real-life Mom has both a great sense of humor about herself and an amazing ability to slip into complete denial if the subject matter gets a little too close to home.Cathy Lee Guisewite

" 'So, I got it wrong.  So, I shoulda, coulda, woulda let the sun shine in.  Yeah.  Yeah, Yeah,' thus spaketh Lola Stupida Godawfula, Patroness Saint to deniers and dissemblers and the d'uh.

" 'So, freakin' what?  Few didn't buy it.  Got that?  News ninnies bought it.  Pin-heads bought it.  Big biz shudup.  Pols . . . well, they're pols . . . if there's a lower road, they'll find it.  Lotsa d'uhs bought it.  Near-on everybody bought it.'

" 'See, everybody's got a butt.  Don't cover it up, and you can get hurt.  Do cover it up, and you go on.  Alright.  Alright.  You go on for a while,' she admitted.

" 'Think of all the hurt I held off.  Think of it.  Just think of it.  Oughta get a medal or something.  You know?  Later beats sooner, right?'

" 'Paradigm lost.  That paradigm was so cool before it got itself lost.  Not so much to it, you know?  Spend and borrow; fight and fight again; dispense dependence for one and all; everybody's workin' somebody's plantation.  Just keep be layin' out the jack, Jack.  Fuzz-up the meaning of pretty near every word spoken or written.  'Democracy' comes to mind.  'Rights' too.  Then there's 'the guv be good', 'bankahs be your big buds', 'the muz be all peace and love', 'national security interest' and more, more, more.   Some lofty stuff in there,' she defended.  'You know?  You know.'

" 'Broke, schmoke.  Now, nofreakinmoney worth diddly. Talk about a deer in the headlights; talk about the whole mob starin' back at ya,' she whined.  'You don't ever wanna be me, I'm tellin' you.'

" 'The bad news?  Didn't work so good this time.  The good news?  Gotta be a next time.  Has been plenty.  'Cain't he'p theirselves, I always say.'  Like, always.  I know.  I know.' "
