THAT’S PERFECT:  Obamanism and the Perfectibility of Man

OK.  OK.  It’s not just the latest lunk to be pilloried and vilified.  It's this ism in all of 'em.  It’s Lincolnism, Wilsonism, Rooseveltism, Carterism, Clintonism; it’s before them, after them, and in-between them.  It's in them.  And so as not to piss off just some of you and not all of you, there are plenty of cases – seemingly lesser in certain quarters, but not without scars due – of this ism in ‘Fork’s opinion - lately, Nixonism, Reganism, and Bushism (double dose), and so forth.  There, now is everybody happy?

Whassup with all of ‘em?  They all, each one of ‘em, to their personal and philosophical extents, danced with the Devil of man’s perfectibility, or, if you will, exploited man’s imperfectability.  The sheeple, so it goes, think that they are capable of being perfected long term (or their imperfections peddled and pandered to short-term satisfaction of most), and the elite – these guys, their loons and goons, touts and louts – are ordained to be making it so. 

Such is the siren song of governance – the authority to force, the manmade God Option to man’s reliance on himself, his others, his Lord.  Force taking.  Force compliance.  Force redistributions of stuff.  Force squander.  Force ethnic, wealth, cultural, social, working classes of divisive distinction.  Force diversion and indirection.  Force dissembling.  Force deception.  Force money beyond means.  Force value to vapor.  Force double-digit unemployment.  Force double-digit inflation.  Force double-digit debt in trillions.  Force prices to punish almost all who partake.  Force massive, civil submission and servility by neo-nice-nice names – benefits, entitlements, speculation, advantages, guarantees, bailouts, manipulated markets, inflations, deflations, easing, exemptions, deferrals, breaks, capital allocations, sealed and secreted information, official denials, public institutions, mandatory sentences, public welfare, progressive taxes, loopholes, and on.  Force propelled in the wake of emergency, security, situation ethics, authorized legitimacy, national interest, environment, too bigness, reelection, wag the dog, dishonest brokerage, pyrrhic victory, etc.

Praise be, there’s a fundamental fault to this f..lishness.  The authority to force is not God-given; it’s not in Natural Law.  That authority is manmade and man-unmade.  Full faith and credit is akin to honor thy government.  Both are sentiments, perceptions, of willfulness as substantial as commitment to them and commitment withdrawn. 

Governance replies:  Lest thou forget ‘authorized’ force, dear ones.  This last card dealt, this ultimate sanction, this unvarnished threat tells it all.  Hence, the greater guide and good to the governed, the greater fear of governance:  it’s not a box full of ballots, but magazines full of bullets - ten rifles to a block.  That might could be again the corner painted.

The American tragedy has taken time to tease and temper.  Early acts and scenes trail and surround us and close.  Middle ways and means open up with what looks to 'Fork as more of 'em ahead and soon.

More government?  Less government?   Less personal responsibility?  More personal responsibility?  Less liberty and freedoms?  More liberty and freedoms?  Less devoted veneration?  More devoted veneration?  More of the seven princes of Hell?  Or less of them?
