Introduction
Doesn’t happen often. Somebody writes way
better or what’s written so surprises ‘Fork he’s stomped flat in admiration.
This week, it’s one of each. Oh sure, there are better written and more
surprising snippets of stuff every day . . . but not whole essays. Not often.
Somebody writes way better

“Obama and the Burden of Exceptionalism:
Post-'60s liberals, with the president as their standard bearer, seek to make a
virtue of decline” By Shelby Steele, The Wall Street Journal, September
1, 2011 (’Fork apologizes for lateness in this reference; and he’s sure whatever
your disquietude with ’Fork’s not staying between his usual, weekly timelines
that, once you’re read this masterpiece, you’ll get over it.)
*‘Bo-Bo’ or, alternatively, ‘Bo’ is a/k/a for
Barack Hussein Obama II and may be pronounced either ‘boe’ or ‘boo’ depending on
which seems more respectful.

Not only was this a surprise to the geezer, it
also surprised the writer of this essay.

“So here is something I never thought I would
write: a column about Sarah Palin’s ideas.
. . .
“She made three interlocking points. First,
that the United States is now governed by a ‘permanent political class,’ drawn
from both parties, that is increasingly cut off from the concerns of regular
people. Second, that these Republicans and Democrats have allied with big
business to mutual advantage to create what she called ‘corporate crony
capitalism.’ Third, that the real political divide in the United States may no
longer be between friends and foes of Big Government, but between friends and
foes of vast, remote, unaccountable institutions (both public and private).”
