Living is personal.  So is living no more.

Lives are events of do-it-yourself and done-to-you, prompted and prosecuted in range from a lot to not much at all day-by-day, step-by-step, breath-by-breath.

Some aspects of Maslow’s needs may be so thoroughly resolved that they’re intractable, character, self; whereas, other systemic needs or selected parts may be little valued, seemingly irrelevant, dismissible, dismissed.  A twist of nature?  Of time?  Of place?  Responsibility?  A greater order, the deal, you’re it?

It’s not that a person doesn’t need.  A person does.  It’s not that one need can’t be more important.  A need can.  It’s not that a need cannot rise and fall in importance on which to rely or to resolve.  That’s life in the raw.  It is that your needs needn’t be mine.   Not exactly.  Were not.  Are not.  Won’t be.  Created equal?  Yes.  Created equally?  No.

Example:  Staying put in times of trouble – violent rebellious trouble – can shuffle safety needs over physiological, at least for a time, e.g., I have water and food and shelter, but I cannot defend my security with what’s at hand.  The rest – belonging, esteem, psychosatisfaction - are covered-up.

Example:  Bring it on!  Each is a force of one!  Huzzah!  . . . Hmmm.  What about grouping?

Example:  The wife and kids can get along on a vitamin pill-a-day or not.  I need some meds bigtime twice a day forever or it’s croaksville.  Doc won’t prescribe past a year.  What’s the way to assure those drugs will keep on coming?

The good news to self-actuality in times of trouble is in the personal wherewithal to pick and chose through your self-defined stack of previously resolved needs, for prospective reliance and repair.  The bad news to self-actuality is in the mental math of confidence conspiring with ego equals denial.
